Last Wednesday night’s episode of Dynamite featured a Singles Match between Jurassic Express’ “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry and FTR’s Dax Harwood. This matchup was reportedly one of the most highly-anticipated matchups in the history of Dynamite as it had Cash Wheeler and Tully Blanchard at ringside handcuffed to Luchasaurus in order to prevent outside interference, while Marko Stunt had his arm taped up as he was selling a recent attack by FTR. Jungle Boy ended up winning the match, forcing Harwood to tap out to the Snare Trap.
According to Dave Meltzer on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Harwood of FTR is the person who put together the match angle and storyline and presented it to All Elite Wrestling CEO and President Tony Khan. The report also indicates that Dax Harwood’s goal with the angle was to make Jungle Boy come out of the match as a superstar babyface.
Jungle Boy is reportedly known by everyone in the promotion as a great athlete because of what he can do in the ring, but now the ultimate goal is for him to take beatdowns and make comebacks in a fight-like situation.
The idea behind Jungle Boy’s match against Dax Harwood was that not only did he get a pinfall victory, but that he made Dax Harwood, who has been in a winning streak since fall, submit to secure a win. AEW even named Jungle Boy their “Wrestler of the Week” because of the win.
AEW said, “It feels like every singles match for @boy_myth_legend he just keeps getting better, which makes him our #WrestleroftheWeek.”
AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes reacted to Jungle Boy being named the “Wrestler of the Week” and said, “Well deserved. At this rate, I imagine he picks up many more accolades like this.”
Jungle Boy would also comment on the huge honor he received and said, “That was the biggest win of my career, and a match I will never forget. @DaxFTR, you are a son of a b—h, but thank you for bringing that out of me.”
