Backstage News On AEW’s Plans For Battle Of The Belts

WarnerMedia announced last May that AEW’s flagship show, Dynamite, will move to TBS beginning January 5th, 2022. It was then announced that the company will be holding four supercard specials starting in 2022 on TNT to coincide with Dynamite’s move to TBS. Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men podcast then said a source within AEW has informed him that All Elite Wrestling is planning to hold their first supercard special on Saturday, January 8th and that the name of the show will be called “Battle of the Belts.”

Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that the Battle of the Belts Event is expected to be about 60 minutes long as these special events are typically an hour and a half long, which was inspired by the old Clash of the Champions Event. Meltzer also mentioned these special events were originally planned to run longer and the idea behind these special events was for PPV-level main event matches to take place on the shows.

At the time that these specials were announced back in May, it was reported that TNT would be working with AEW President and CEO Tony Khan on creating the shows. As of this writing, no plans has been set in stone yet, but updates will be provided once it has been made available.
