Thunder Rosa Vacates Title, Jamie Hayter Named AEW Women’s World Champion

AEW President and CEO Tony Khan mentioned during the post-AEW Full Gear media scrum that he is giving Thunder Rosa, who has been on the sidelines for quite some time now due to a devastating back injury, every opportunity to return and defend the AEW Women’s World Championship against whoever the current Interim AEW Women’s World Champion will be when the time comes, but that will no longer be happening.

Prior to the 3-Way Women’s Tag Team Matchup on AEW Dynamite this past Wednesday night, Renee Paquette made her way out and announced that All Elite Wrestling and Thunder Rosa have reached an agreement as Thunder is thinking of the future of the women’s division as well as all of the women in the division and it has been decided that she will relinquish the AEW Women’s World Title. Paquette also announced that Jamie Hayter, who won the championship at last Saturday’s AEW Full Gear is no longer the Interim AEW Women’s World Champion, but the AEW Women’s World Champion.

The company is continuing to tease a potential match between Jamie Hayter and Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. down the line as Baker once again interrupted Hayter, but there’s no word yet on if Thunder Rosa will be added to the mix as the announcement on AEW Dynamite could mean that Rosa will remain on the shelf for the foreseeable future.
